Oregon State came into PK Park and swept the Oregon Ducks over the weekend.

While Oregon State(41-4, 24-3 Pac-12) used their number one Starter on Thursday and Oregon(26-21, 9-15) went with David Peterson Friday, the final game of the series on Saturday was between Matt Mercer and Jake Thompson. While Mercer pitched well giving up a run and eight hits in six innings pitched, Thompson was just better.

Oregon State watched Thompson throw 6 2/3 innings allowing just three Oregon Ducks to reach base and not allowing a run. George Horton could do nothing but watch after the disaster that happened on Friday night. The team had a chance with the bases loaded in the 9th inning and two outs, but a strikeout ended the game and gave OSU the series, and the Pac-12 Title outright.

While the postseason is still a possibility for the Oregon Ducks, their chances took a big hit in this series. Coming close doesn’t help in the RPI, and even one win against the Beavers would have boosted the Ducks RPI. Oregon needs a strong finish and has lost five of their last six games.
