The Oregon Ducks Softball team had plenty of opportunities, but could not solve Washington Starter Taran Alvelo in a 3-1 loss to open the WCWS.

The loss puts the Oregon Ducks into a tough spot,, one that will also be occupied by the UCLA Bruins following their loss on Friday. Oregon and UCLA will have Friday off, but need to mount a comeback on Saturday and Sunday for a chance to make it to the Championship starting on Monday.

Megan Kleist threw a solid game and Nikki Udria had what I would consider the catch of the year in the loss to Washington. The Ducks had a shot in the bottom of the 7th with runners on and no outs, but it was not to be. Oregon again stumbled into the Women’s College World Series. The top of the lineup struggled to get on base and when they did, it was the baserunning, which has been the Ducks bread and butter all season that did not come through in clutch moments.

The Washington Huskies have now won three of four from the Oregon Ducks going back to the Regular Season. Oregon now faces an uphill climb starting on Saturday. They must win four games in two days in the double elimination round of the Women’s College World Series.
