NCAA Championships: Oregon Men Begin With The Decathalon

The NCAA Championships got underway at Hayward Field as 14 Men of Oregon began the journey to a become a Champion.

Wednesday was the first day of competition at the NCAA Track and Field Championships. Mitch Modin and Joe Delgado started the day with the Decathalon. Five events took place with the 100 Meters, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, and 400 Meters.

Outside of the fielding events, the Oregon Ducks also saw starting competition for the Hammer(Collen Prenna), Javelin(Cody Danielson), and the Pole Vaullt(Cole Walsh). By the end of the day all three would be finals.

Tanner Anderson will be the Ducks lone entry in the 10,000 Meters with Edward Cheserek turning pro last week ending his run of 17 NCAA Championships in an Oregon Uniform.

Blake Haney and Tim Gorman will pace Oregon in the 1500 Meter Semifinals. Haney helped Oregon to a 1-2-3 finish last year in the NCAA Championships. Kyree King will pull a triple with the 4X100, 100, and 200 Meters. DeMarcus Simpson will also represent in the 100 Meters for the Oregon Ducks.

Marcus Chambers will look to get back to the Finals in the 400 Meters to close out the day of competition for Oregon. The Final Day of Competition where a Cumulative Team Champion will be crowned for the Men is Friday.

The Oregon Women bring a stacked field into the Semifinal round of competition on Thursday at Hayward Field.
