Back in April in his look at the Top 26, Phil Steele – had the Ducks pegged at #3 with Stanford right behind at #4. Now we take a look at his Top 40 Teams heading into 2013. The list is very Pac 12 friendly. There are seven teams from the conference on his list, including an intriguing USC at #6 right behind Oregon.

(Share Clip)

For the Ducks, Steele sees them as a National Title contender in 2013. Of the offense, he says that Oregon has always had productive quarterbacks and if Marcus Mariota can stay healthy he could be one of the early contenders for the Heisman Trophy. No real surprise here since we know what we’re getting when we watch Mariota and his health did effect him slightly last season.

On the Receiving Corps Steele says Oregon’s is the most experienced in years and Oregon continues to upgrade the talent at wideout. The Ducks at running back could be a question this year but again Steele sees strength with the Ducks. Even without Kenjon Barner he likes the ‘next man up’ mentality.

On Defense he sees the linebacker position being down slightly, but says Oregon has two NFL caliber players at the cornerbacks. With the amount of points the Ducks put up on offense, and one team last year able to contain them in Stanford I see this as pretty solid.

Below are regional scores, recaps and NCAA College World Series start times to keep you up to speed on PAC-12 baseball.

Weekend Results May 7-June 10 (Super Regional Seeding):
Friday – UCLA 5 @ 5 Cal State Fullerton 3 F/10
Saturday – 5 Cal State Fullerton 0 v. UCLA 3, Kansas State 6 @ 3 Oregon State 2 F/10
Sunday – 3 Oregon State 12 v. Kansas State 4
Monday – 3 Oregon State 4 v. Kansas State 3

Super Regional Recap –
(UCLA-5 Cal State Fullerton): Adam Putko gave UCLA seven strong innings of work with David Berg throwing three innings out of the pen on Friday as the Bruins scored two runs in the tenth to stun Cal State Fullerton in game one. Game two the Bruins offense struck early for three runs and starter Nick Vander Tuig went 6.1 innings working out of a few jams. UCLA is heading to the CWS for the fifth time (1969, ’97, 2010, ’12, ’13) and the first time they’ve made back-to-back appearances.

(Kansas State-3 Oregon State): Oregon State led 2-0 after four innings before K-State scored one in the sixth then tying the game in the ninth. OSU starter Mayy Boyd threw seven strong innings but got the no decision. Kansas State struck for four runs in the tenth to take a 1-0 series advantage. Unlike game one the Beavers offense struck early and often putting five runs up in the fifth and led 7-1 after three. Tyler Smith/Kavin Keyes were 4-for-5 in the 12-4 victory. In the winner take all game Oregon State again got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the second then solo runs in the fourth and fifth. The Wildcats got to 4-3 but were unable to tie or take the lead. Ben Wetzler gave OSU 7.2 innings with Boyd coming in for the save getting the Beavers back to Omaha for the first time since 2007. This is the fifth time the program has made the CWS (1952, 2005, ’06, ’07, ’13) with the last two resulting in National Championships.
