Bruce Feldman from CBS is reporting that Virginia Offensive Coordinator Bill Lazor, who has been with the team since 2010 as Offensive Coordinator is departing to join Chip Kelly and his staff with the Philadelphia Eagles. It was just announced yesterday that Oregon and Virginia will play each other several times over the coming seasons, this year (2013) at Autzen, and in 2016 in Virginia.

According to the report, Lazor has some extensive NFL experience with Seattle Seahawks, Washington Redskins, and Atlanta Falcons.

Oregon has done it’s due diligence toward the state and has interviewed several minority candidates for it’s head coaching position since Chip Kelly departed for the Philadelphia Eagles. According to reports from George Schroeder from USA Today and Bruce Feldman from CBS the Ducks will name Offensive Coordinator Mark Helfrich Oregon’s next head football coach, possibly as early as today.

The Register Guard reported that Receivers Coach Scott Frost would move up to Offensive Coordinator, this keeping much of the Ducks assistant coaches in house moving forward. Last week Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti was offered the job at USC for the same job he does for the Ducks, he declined and will remain with Oregon.

The Helfrich rise to Head Coach continues a succession plan that Oregon has had in place for nearly thirty five years (Brooks to Bellotti, Bellotti to Kelly, Kelly to Helfrich) for hiring for the position in house. By keeping with tradition, one incoming recruit, Thomas Tyner, said it was like nothing has changed and with National Recruiting day just around the corner the Ducks may be able to save some of the possible recruits from jumping ship by making this hire quickly.

At the time of writing this, there were no Press Conferences scheduled by the University.

Oregon Basketball Rolls USC/UCLA Over The Weekend, Ailing Woods scores 18 in 25 minutes vs Bruins

It has been nearly forty years since the Ducks have started a season in the Pac 12 like this. Now 4-0 in confererence play after beating USC and UCLA(76-67) over the weekend, ailing Oregon Senior Tony Woods in 25 minutes Saturday against the Bruins scored 18 points to lead the Ducks. Arslan Kazemi added 12 points and had 11 rebounds. It was another team win for Oregon on who now returns home as co leaders of the Pac 12 and look to continue their home winning streak which could hit twenty with wins this week vs the Washington schools. The Ducks host Washington State on Wednesday at 6:30, (Pac 12 Networks), and Washington Saturday at 4pm, (Pas 12 Networks)

Earlier This Season there was a photo of the student section, pretty much empty…minutes before the game at UCLA’s newly renovated Pauley Pavillion. Now that the Bruins are ranked in the Top 25 and coming off a nine game winning streak fans (and students have returned) says Carlos Sandoval from Fansided’s GoJoeBruin.com, said yes, students and fans in general have begun to show up to games but most of the emptiness there has to do with winter break and such, although there was dwindling interest against terrible mid-majors in non-conference play.

Shabazz Muhammed has been an impact player for UCLA so far this season averaging eighteen points per game and shooting nearly fifty percent from the three point line . Sandoval says Muhammad has been a huge help but it’s clear that he’s a piece of the puzzle to a team with a lot of individual stand-outs. He’s very necessary to this team’s success, but so is Larry Drew II and a combination of either Kyle Anderson and Jordan Adams.

In order for Oregon to remain perfect in Pac 12 play, they must play better than they did on Thursday vs USC. Shooting vs the Trojans was poor and that definitely needs to improve for Oregon’s Pac 12 record to remain unblemished.
