Oregon’s Women’s Basketball team hasn’t had a lot to look forward to this season. The year began with key players being lost and Head Coach Paul Westhead looking to other sports for warm bodies to put on the floor. A disappointing 2012-2013 campaign came to a close Thursday night in the first round of the Women’s Pac 12 Tournament in Seattle. 12th seeded Oregon led the 5th seeded Huskies at the half, but could not hold on losing 69-62.

February 24, 2013; Stanford, CA, USA;.

One bright spot on the Ducks this season was Freshman Jill Alleyne who had 11 points and 15 rebounds. Four sport athlete Liz Brenner also had 11 points and 15 rebounds for the Ducks. As far as what the future holds when it comes to Head Coach Paul Westhead, no one knows for sure.

Will he get another season to turn it around due to all the injuries(I somewhat feel like a broken record because injuries seem to pile up at the beginning of the season every year, at least the last few, for this team) or will he be let go?

That is now the big question facing a program that has been a pretty big underachieving team the last few seasons.

Oregon hits the road and heads north this week to face the Washington Schools.

The Ducks last road trip started a three game losing streak and Oregon needs to build on their victory at home last Saturday vs Utah and cut down on the turnovers. Dana Altman has said that Freshman Dominic Artis is doubtful for the Oregon Ducks((19-5, 8-3 Pac 12) against the Huskies.

Lorenzo Romar, Washington’s Head Coach knows how important Artis is for Oregon.

If anyone doesn’t understand how valuable Artis is to that team then I don’t know that they’ve really played sports. Their key guy is out, other guys suffer with him being out.

Oregon has faced the Huskies already this season, an 81-76 win at Matthew Knight Arena back on January 26th. Washington forced 23 turnovers, but committed 21. Ball control will be a key on Wednesday night for both teams.

The Ducks are currently tied for first place in the Pac 12 with Arizona and UCLA. All three teams are at 8-3. Washington(13-11, 5-6 Pac 12) and Guard C.J. Wilcox look to change that and pull to .500 in Pac 12 play. Wilcox is suffering from the beginning of a stress fracture in his foot according to Coach Lomar. He is averaging 11.6 points and shooting 34.4 percent with the injury.

The first version of ESPN’s Bubble Watch for 2013 came out on Tuesday Morning and the Ducks are the one team that ‘Should Be In’. They need to take care of business this weekend.

The Ducks and Huskies tip off a Rivalry Week Showdown on ESPN2, Wednesday night at 8pm Pacific Time.
