In the opener, Ducks 5, Trojans 2,  Starting Pitcher Jake Reed(2-3) got back on track and earned his second win of the season allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings. Closer Jimmie Sherfy picked up his sixth save of the year. Oregon collected six hits from Brett Thomas, J.J. Altobelli and Scott Heineman in the win.

In Game 2 of the series, Ducks 8, Trojans 4, Oregon  handed the ball to Sophomore Tommy Thorpe who went 5 2/3 giving up eight hits and four earned runs. He struck out two. The Ducks had a rally in them. So far this year the eighth inning seems to be good for   Oregon. For the second series this year (Vanderbilt, Game 3) they came from behind to win. Led by Scott Heineman(3-6, 2 RBI’s, 2 Runs scored), Oregon took the lead on a six run eighth inning.

For the finale in Game 3, Trojans 5, Ducks 3, Oregon turned to Freshman Cole Irvin for the sweep of the Trojans, but the young pitcher gave up six hits and five runs in 4 2/3 innings of work for Oregon. The Ducks did not have a comeback in them and lost 5-3. Shortstop J.J. Altobelli(1-3 Hit, RBI) and Third Baseman Michael Tollman who hit his first career home run provided some offense for the Ducks, but it wasn’t enough.

Oregon heads home to kick off a seven game homestand at PK. They host a big three game series with Arizona this weekend. The Wildcats(15-8, 0-3 Pac 12) are licking their wounds after being swept at home by #3 Oregon State) The opener for the series on Friday(6pm PT) will  be broadcast on thse Pac 12 Networks. Game 2, Saturday at 2pm(PT) and Game 3 is slated for Sunday at Noon(PT). Oregon also has a game with Portland(Tuesday 3/26), before hosting Washington in a three game set starting early on Thursday(03/28).

In the first game of the day 9 seed Arizona State met 8 seed Stanford and Arizona State Freshman Jahii Carson put on a show. Carson scored 34 points, including 5 points in overtime to help put away the Cardinal, 89-88. He set the tournament record for points by a freshman.

“I just try to come up big on big stages. I know my teammates look a lot for me to create for them and create for myself, and I try to go out there and make big plays.”

For the game Stanford made 15 three pointers, but just a single free throw. Their post season hopes will be sitting and waiting rather than playing. The Sundevils meet top seed UCLA at Noon Thursday. (Pac 12 Network)

For the second game of the day it was a rematch of a game from last weekend. 12 seed Oregon State met 5 seed Colorado and the results in Vegas turned out different. The Buffaloes took care of business and knocked off the Beavers. It was a rough start for the game. Colorado missed 8 of it’s first 11 shots. Oregon State started 1 for 6, but the Buffs got it together to win 74-68. Colorado meets Arizona Thursday at 2:30(PT) in Round 2.

Game three featured 10 seed Utah, who finished the regular season by beating back to back Pac 12 teams, the first time since joining the conference faced off against 7 seed USC. The Utes largest lead in the game was 13 and they were able to hold on for the 6 point victory, 69-66. Utah meets #2 Cal Thursday at 6pm(PT).

The final game of Wednesday’s Round 1 of the Pac 12 Tournament had a battle for the Apple Cup on the hardwood. 6 seed Washington met 11 seed Washington State. The Huskies started the game with a flourish and looked to take the win, but lost the lead with about 7 minutes left in the game. Washington State Senior Brock Motum had 28 points in the loss 64-62 as the Huskies move on to face the #3 seed Oregon Ducks Thursday at 8:30(PT)

Earlier this month Former Oregon Duck Kenjon Barner made it to the semifinals of the EA Sports NCAA Football 14 Cover Vote. He didn’t make it past the 2nd round of competition, but earlier this week he answered questions from fans on the EASports NCAA Football Twitter Feed. I had the opportunity to ‘tweet’ a few questions and received some quick responses:
