Spotlight on Oregon Men’s Basketball | #5 Transfer Olu Ashaolu
This week for our Oregon Men’s Basketball spotlight we’ll look at senior transfer #5 Olu Ashaolu. The forward comes to Oregon from Louisiana Tech. He started all 32 games in his 2010/11 season with Louisiana Tech and comes in with a slew of basketball honors.
During his last season with Louisiana Tech he averaged 30.9 minutes of playing time per game, 9.4 rebounds, and 14.2 points. Standing at 6’7’’ and 220 lbs, Ashaolu could also be a difference maker for Oregon underneath the basket. Ashaolu wants to play in the NCAA tournament for his first time and he will do what he can for Oregon to make that happen. Ashaolu is replacing Oregon’s leading scorer and rebounder from last season, Joevan Catron.
We did get to see Ashaolu in action during the Duck’s Exhibition tour in Italy over the summer. During the first game against Latina Basket Ashaolu scored eight points, took down seven rebounds and made three steals. During the entire five games Ashaolu grabbed eight offensive rebounds and 27 defensive boards. He scored 32 points making his average for the exhibition 6.4 points per game.
This is a fairly unique situation for Ashaolu since he is coming to Oregon for his senior year. Altman spoke about the situation earlier this year;
“It’s a unique situation for us, and for him,” Altman said. “He seems like a real mature guy, who is all about the team.
