Texas offers Bryce Cottrell a Scholarship
Outside linebacker Bryce Cottrell is ranked by ESPN as the 115th best linebacker in the country and a two-star linebacker. The 6’3″, 225-pound OLB from Plano, Texas verbally committed to the Oregon Ducks in mid-October, but Cottrell is still keeping his options open. Texas has offered him a scholarship, which will definitely give Cottrell something to mull over during this week, leading to signing day He is ideally a 3-4 linebacker who excels in coverage and plays well against the run. Cottrell is viewed as a solid addition to the Ducks defense, but the Texas Longhorns could keep the Plano West product in Texas.
Rivals.com views Cottrell as a strongside defensive end and a three-star recruit, and there are a few fans who are even more optimistic than Rivals with regards to his future success. The site has ranked him as the 42nd best SDE among all recruits and predict a solid future for him in college.
The Oregon Ducks are in the race for Arik Armstead and Shaq Thompson, but that doesn’t mean they can afford to lose more recruits. Jeremy Castro recently decommitted from Oregon and flipped to the UCLA Bruins, and the Ducks are hoping that they won’t lose another solid recruit who can contribute to this team in the future. Castro is a defensive end, and the Ducks don’t want to miss out on two players who could have beefed up their front seven in the future.
