Oregon offers Christopher Obekpa
Head coach Dana Altman and assistant coach Tony Stubblefield visited four-star center Christopher Obekpa yesterday and have sent him an offer. Both Cincinnati and Oregon are going the hardest after Stubblefield, as Obekpa visited the Bearcats on the 22nd of February. He is one of the best 15 recruits at his position and one of the best 75 recruits in the country.
The Oregon Ducks hopes of making it to the NCAA Tournament this season are slim, so it’s back to the drawing board- or recruiting trail- for Altman and the Ducks. He’s already making it known to some quality recruits that the Ducks are interested, and the team’s new-found success this season has made them a more attractive school for recruits. You see, we actually cared that Oregon lost in a heartbreaker against Colorado. Since when has that happened to this football-crazed school? Basketball is relevant in Eugene, and we have guys like Devoe Joseph to thank for that. It’s time to bring in the next crop of stars to Oregon, and Christopher Obekpa can be one of those guys.
At 6″8″, Obekpa is a long, athletic center who has enticing speed and is one of the best recruits in the state of New York. Florida has sent the possible Oregon savior an offer, and Big East heavyweight UConn also has interest in Christopher Obekpa. Steve Lavin and St. John’s are also among the top five teams going after Obekpa, so he is certainly a prized recruit.
It would be a dream for the Ducks to land this top center who is an impact player and is the type of player who the Ducks can build their recruiting class around. It’s tough to find a center with the speed and motor that Christopher Obekpa possess, but it will be difficult to sign him with Big East teams going after the New York recruit. Still, both parties are interested and the Ducks are making every effort they can to obtain him. The only other Pac-12 school with interest in Obekpa is, of course, Washington, but they lost to Oregon State so they are obsolete. (Just kidding, had to throw another barb at a team that usually recruits better than us).
