Cliff Harris NFL Draft Scouting Report

So you see the comparison here, Cliff Harris is somewhere between Philip Buchanon and Asante Samuel talent-wise. He has the downside, if character doesn’t become too much of an issue, of a No. 2 corner (which is still good) and the upside of an elite, but flawed corner.

Teams that should be interested in Harris are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and the New England Patriots. The Bucs are already dealing with a talented, enigmatic corner in Aqib Talib, and their decision on Talib will impact their view on Harris in two ways. They will either shy away from him and not want him on the roster if they re-sign Talib, or they could replace him with Talib in the hopes that he will not be as big of a headcase.

With the Lions, Cliff Harris would be a good fit with their aggressive play, but he will hurt their run support in the secondary; unless if Eric Wright is playing in the nickel. Harris is best off going to the Patriots, where the character concerns will not be an issue, unless if Harris wants to challenge Bill Belichick. Yeah, I didn’t think so. The Pats are another team that could use a talented corner like Cliff Harris and love taking those high-upside guys later in the draft. Harris can also fit with the Lions and Bucs, but it depends on what their personal view on him is, because both teams definitely have a need at corner.

Most players with character concerns who have an elite level of talent end up doing well when taken later on in the draft. Harris will be a very good No. 2 corner and a nice value selection in the third or fourth round. The immaturity is there, but so is the upside. The character issues will drop Cliff Harris into the middle-rounds, when he would have been a second-rounder.
