2012 NIT: Oregon Ducks Basketball
So, now to the tournament us Ducks fans actually care about- at least, at this moment in time- the NIT. Both the Huskies and Ducks have a great chance at winning, and an even better chance at knocking each other out. I’ll have the NIT bracket up later, just in case you actually want to go through it. In a scenario where the Oregon Ducks and Washington Huskies end up facing each other, I’ll take the Ducks; on one condition. It’s that Bill Simmons book that has trashed my mind with the thoughts of “team players” and such, but all that stuff is true. If the Oregon Ducks can go back to their roots of team-oriented ball, which centers around Singler, and avoid letting Joseph take over 15 shots, then this team wins. The Huskies almost never do that and have too many mental errors.
A Huskies-Ducks match-up would come down to talent against team chemistry, provided that the Oregon Ducks get things together. Even if that condition is fulfilled, there’s still doubt in my mind. I mean, that Wroten guy can play. But I’d take the Oregon Ducks anyway, even if I don’t feel confident about it. The next few games will tell us about these two teams, especially if one or both- extremely plausible- gets knocked out. After all, they didn’t exactly win their first games of the Pac-12 tournament either. The Ducks are the favorite now, if these teams end up playing, and both are two of the favorites to win the NIT. Trust me, it may not be the NCAAs, but winning- or having success- in the NIT actually means something. And oh yeah, it’s another chance to see our seniors play. Go Ducks!
