NCAA Baseball Super Regional Picks
By Mike Vamosi
We’ve made it to the Super Regional round with the winners advancing to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska next week. Of the 16 teams remaining, the Pac-12 and SEC have four teams, Big 12 and ACC have two, America East/Big East/MAC/Mountain West have one team each.
Gainesville Super Regional host 1 Florida Gators: June 9-11 McKethan Stadium/Perry Field
1 Florida Gators (45-18) v. North Carolina State (45-18)
Pick – Florida Gators in 2 games, NC State is a great story but this is a Florida team on a mission to middle America
Los Angeles Super Regional host 2 UCLA Bruins: June 8-10 Jackie Robinson Stadium
2 UCLA Bruins (45-14) v. TCU Horned Frogs (40-20)
Pick – UCLA Bruins in 2 games, I payed attention to the Bruins last week and while TCU is good I’ve got to go with UCLA at home
Tallahassee Super Regional host 3 Florida State Seminoles: June 8-10 Dick Howser Field
3 Florida State Seminoles (46-15) v. Stanford Cardinal (41-16)
Pick – Stanford Cardinal in 3 games, FSU is hard to beat at home but the Stanford pitching buzzsaw will get them back to Omaha
Waco Super Regional host 4 Baylor Bears: June 9-11 Baylor Ballpark
4 Baylor Bears (48-15) v. Arkansas Razorbacks (42-19)
Pick – Baylor Bears in 3 games, This will be a fascinating series to watch but I like Baylor to beat Arkansas in Waco this weekend
Eugene Super Regional host 5 Oregon Ducks: June 9-11 PK Park
5 Oregon Ducks (45-17) v. Kent State Golden Flashes (44-17)
Pick – Oregon Ducks in 3 games, Remarkable how quickly this program has gotten to the Super Regional point considering where the program was as of five year ago, Kent State will challenge but Ducks get to “O”maha
Baton Rouge Super Regional host 7 LSU Tigers: June 8-10 Alex Box Stadium
7 LSU Tigers (46-16) v. Stony Brook Seawolves (50-12)
Pick – Stony Brook Seawolves in 3 games, This is my long shot to actually happen but I love when cinderfella comes to my hometown of Omaha plus I’ve seen enough of LSU in the CWS.
Columbia Super Regional host 8 South Carolina Gamecocks: June 9-11 Carolina Field
8 South Carolina Gamecocks (43-17) v. Oklahoma Sooners (42-23)
Pick – South Carolina Gamecocks in 3 games, I was at the last postseason game the Gamecocks lost, which was 2010 at the College World Series against … Oklahoma. I’d go with OU but the back-to-back champs will return to defend
Tucson Super Regional Regional host Arizona Wildcats: June 8-10 Hi Corbett Field
Arizona Wildcats (41-17) v. St. John’s Red Storm (40-21)
Pick – Arizona Wildcats in 3 games, I picked one New York team but I will not pick the other given how the ‘Cats offense is going right now but I do think it goes three games
