Recruiting Update: Max Redfield Shines at Nike Air Strike, Has Date Set
By Brian Spaen
The four-star athlete from Mission Viejo, California, has been in the news a lot lately. Max Redfield played at a recruiting tournament that showcased many Southern California recruits, and he also announced a decision date for his top five schools.
Redfield participated at the Nike Air Strike tournament on Saturday, which is a 7-on-7 scrimmage hosted at Dana Hills in California. Even though he is projected to be a safety primarily in college, he also played at wide receiver. Rivals’ Adam Gorney was certainly impressed in his play among the other top high school prospects. From his recap on the players at the tournament:
"Redfield is not only athletically gifted, but he’s highly skilled and knows how to make plays. He has great physical tools and plays with lots of intelligence to the point where his coaching staff trusts him on both sides of the field."
Stock continues to rise for the 2013 recruit. Redfield is listed among the top five in position and overall athlete in California on many recruiting services, such as 247sports and Rivals. Overall nationally, he is ranked 36th on 247sports’ Top247 and 37th on the ESPN 150 and Rivals 100.
On June 8th, Scout’s Greg Biggins announced on Twitter that Redfield has talked about his top five and announced a date. The date is known to those who subscribe to the service and hasn’t been released to the public. However, Tyler James from the South Bend Tribune had an article a day before Biggins’ announcement that gave a general time frame for his announcement.
"The senior-to-be at Mission Viejo High said Oregon, USC, Washington, LSU and Notre Dame are leading at this point, but he’s not planning on announcing a decision until the Under Armour All-American game in January."
