Matt Wogan Commits to the Ducks
By Brian Spaen
Two weeks after an unofficial visit and an offer from Oregon, Matt Wogan accepts the offer to be a kicker on the football team in 2013.
Justin Hopkins, from 247Sports, reports that the 6-foot-2, 195-pound special teams recruit made it official last night. Despite it being across the country, Wogan “[loved] the people, the academics and the coaches” in Oregon.
Wogan did kickoff and punting duties for the Porter Ridge Pirates in Indian Trail, N.C. Last season, he punted 35 times for nearly 1,400 yards, averaging about 40 yards a punt. His longest punt was a 67-yard bomb in a 30-14 victory against High Point Central.
Being the main kickoff man for the team, Wogan booted 89 of them and 75 went for touchbacks. Despite only doing extra points and not being the field goal kicker, it’s clear that Matt has the leg worthy of a scholarship with the Ducks.
No recruiting services have Wogan ranked in any categories, but his video highlights are impressive and it will be interesting to see if he will do more than just kickoffs and extra points with the football team.
Wogan passed up offers from Charlotte, Towson, and Wofford.
