Oregon Ducks Recruiting: Tyree and Tyrell Robinson commit

facebooktwitterreddit

The Oregon Ducks have landed two of the top recruits in both basketball and football in twins Tyree Robinson and Tyrell Robinson, who were always going to commit in a package deal. They dwindled their list down to the USC Trojans, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Oregon Ducks before deciding on Oregon yesterday after taking their official visit and watching the Ducks demolish the Arizona Wildcats 49-0.

The twins are teammates with small forward Aaron Gordon, who also took his official visit to Oregon on Saturday. The Oakland Soldiers star is the No. 5 ranked recruit in the 2013 class, and Gordon has a top three of Oregon, Arizona, and Washington. He is also considering offers from the Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears.

Tyree Robinson is a four-star athlete and one of the top 250 recruits in the 2013 class. The 14th best recruit in the state of California by 247Sports, Robinson is regarded as one of the top 15 athletes in the country and will play safety at the collegiate level due to his athleticism and strength.

Meanwhile, Tyrell Robinson is also a top 250, four-star recruit who will play at outside linebacker in college. He is the 11th ranked recruit by 247Sports and is their 9th-ranked recruit in the 2013 class.

Both players are stars on defense, so I can’t help but think that Oregon’s dominant performance against Arizona defensively played a role in their decision to commit to Oregon. It’s huge news for the Ducks, who have also added top power forward Arsalan Kazemi on a transfer from the Rice Owls.

Tyrell Robinson will play small forward in college, with Tyree Robinson expected to play the 2. We’ll see if Tyrell’s decision to commit affects teammate Aaron Gordon in any way, because it can go either way. Gordon could be more inclined to choose Oregon due to their decisions to play for Oregon, but he might also want to play for a different team with Tyrell’s commitment to likely play SF. In the end, it seems like the former will carry a higher amount of weight than the latter.

Justin Hopkins of 247Sports predicted that the Robinson twins would commit to the Ducks earlier this week, and he was certainly right. He has also reported that they might enroll early which would be more great news for the Ducks.

Oregon currently has 11 football commits in the 2013 class, with the Robinson twins being the third and fourth highest-rated commits, depending on which recruiting rankings you follow. I use 247Sports, and they have Tyrell rated higher. Oregon has now jumped up to 40th in their recruiting rankings due to the additions of the four-star twins, who will not be taking any more visits and are fully committed to the Ducks.

It’s been a great week to be a Ducks fan.
