C-O-M-M-I-T, and with the departure of Chip Kelly to the Philadelphia Eagles, it was thought part of the recruting class was going to fly away with him. This has not been the case. Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich, along with his assistant coaches have been travelling and burning the candles at both ends in the weeks and now days leading up to what for some seems to be a National Holiday.
2013 National Signing Day is February 6th, Next Wednesday. The Ducks 2013 Recruiting Class is in tact, and it looks like 15-20 athletes will be signing up to play football for the Oregon Ducks.
According to Duck Sports Authority three have pledged their commitment to the Ducks including Devon Allen, (Phoenix, AZ) 6 foot 1, 190, who plans to play football and run Track and Field at Oregon(he received the football scholarship when Bryan Bennett departed), also on the list Offensive Tackle Elijah George(Las Vegas), 6 foot 4, 240, two way recruit Juwaan Williams, (Tucker, Georgia) 6 foot 1, 180
From Rob Moseley and the Register Guard it has been reported that Oregon has received a commitment from Three Star Quarterback Damian Hobbs(Cedar Hill, Texas) after an in home visit from Scott Frost and Mark Helfrich.
One place Oregon seems to have a need is at kicker, and after watching a few kicks, the Ducks offered Matt Wogan(Porter Ridge, North Carolina) a scholarship. According to Moseley, Wogan said his average kickoff last year averaged over 74 yards. Wogan would likely have to earn a spot, but that doesn’t seem to bother him.
"“I think the ‘answer’ for the program is the coaches there, the players there and the program they’ve built. I’m just someone that’s ready to get out there and do my best, do my part.” Oregon Recruit, Kicker Matt Wogan on Oregon"
Friday morning Aaron Fentress from The Oregonian wrote a peice on JUCO Linebacker Joe Walker(Wilmington, California), 6 foot 3, 230 pounds. He committed to play for the Ducks in December. Walker injured his shoulder in 2010, and took a medical grayshirt the following season. According to Fentress, he is already enrolled on classes at the U of O and looks to work toward a spot left vacant by graduating seniors Michael Clay and Kiko Alonso.
More of the recruiting tale will unfold as we get closer to Wednesday, keep it here for the latest updates as we approach National Signing Day.
