Oregon Baseball(30-10, 13-5 Pac 12) looks to rebound after a rough weekend losing two of three to UCLA at PK Park last weekend. The Ducks did manage an 11-7 victory at Portland on Tuesday. #14 Stanford(23-12, 9-6 Pac 12) on the other hand has been eating their wheaties of late. Their offense put up 17 on San Jose State with 17 hits on Tuesday. The Cardinal have won five of their last six games and eight of nine batters in the lineup scored in their first time around the order Tuesday Night.
Oregon on the other hand may now be on the outside looking in at a Regional hosting opportunity for the College World Series after the losses last weekend to UCLA. No one is hitting the panic button yet. There is some good news for the Ducks. They have one of the best closers in the Pac 12, if not the country in Jimmie Sherfy.
Oregon also has one of the Top Ranked Defenses and Adam Jude from the Oregonian wrote about Defensive leader J.J. Altobelli with a .986 Fielding percentage.
Sherfy has been added to the Midseason watch list for the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award. He was also a finalist last year with 19 saves and a 5-3 record. He struck out 93 hitters in just 61.1 innings (an average of 13.6 strikeouts per nine innings pitched) and held opponents to a .172 batting average.
The Ducks need their offense to show up this weekend at home and continue some winning momentum. Oregon is 30-10(13-5 Pac 12), and currently behind Oregon State for the Pac 12 Conference lead.
Oregon Hosts Stanford at PK Park, Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 2pm PT(Pac 12 Networks), and Sunday at 12:30PT(ESPNU)
