It was a great day to be at Hayward Field on Saturday for the conclusion of the NCAA Track and Field Championships.  Both teams took home a pair of trophies as Mac Fleet took the victory in the Men’s 1500 Meter Final. The Women pushed hard throughout the day but were unable to gain much momentum against #1 Kansas. The 4×400 meter final that earlier in the day was billed as ‘the race that could decide the Championship’ ended up being a non decider for the Ducks as they took Third place, their fifth Top 3 finish in 5 years. Kansas won it’s first ever Women’s title and Texas A&M took second.

It was a stranger end for the Men’s side which ended in a tie. Yes, a tie for the title. Texas A&M and Florida both had 53 points, Arkansas was 3rd and after a successful day with the Men’s 1500, Sam Crouser’s Third place finish in the Javelin, and a third place finish in the 4×400 relay Oregon placed 4th for the weekend.

"“It was a big push by the men today. It was a big finish and for them to do that was huge. (The women) tried their hardest today and I couldn’t be more proud of them.” Oregon Head Coach Robert Johnson"

11,482 were in attendance on the final day of competition at Hayward Field as it was also the final competition day for several Ducks including Jordan Hasay who finished her time at Oregon on Friday night in the 5000 meters. Another Duck departing is English Gardner who won the 100 meter final on Friday. She also helped the team to a 4th place finish on Saturday and shortly after said she was forgoing her senior season with Oregon to go pro.

"“I am a little bit sad because this is my last Oregon meet. I have decided to go professional, after yesterday’s performance I want to see how I go against the world.”"

Something tells me it won’t be long before we see both of these ladies again at Hayward Field.
