PAC-12 Baseball Weekend Recap (June 11/Super Regional Edition)

Two PAC-12 teams came into the Super Regional’s and both UCLA and Oregon State will be advancing to Omaha for the College World Series. The Bruins return to the CWS for the third time in four years while the Beavers are back for the first time since 2007.

Super Regional Recap –
(UCLA-5 Cal State Fullerton): Adam Putko gave UCLA seven strong innings of work with David Berg throwing three innings out of the pen on Friday as the Bruins scored two runs in the tenth to stun Cal State Fullerton in game one. Game two the Bruins offense struck early for three runs and starter Nick Vander Tuig went 6.1 innings working out of a few jams. UCLA is heading to the CWS for the fifth time (1969, ’97, 2010, ’12, ’13) and the first time they’ve made back-to-back appearances.

(Kansas State-3 Oregon State): Oregon State led 2-0 after four innings before K-State scored one in the sixth then tying the game in the ninth. OSU starter Mayy Boyd threw seven strong innings but got the no decision. Kansas State struck for four runs in the tenth to take a 1-0 series advantage. Unlike game one the Beavers offense struck early and often putting five runs up in the fifth and led 7-1 after three. Tyler Smith/Kavin Keyes were 4-for-5 in the 12-4 victory. In the winner take all game Oregon State again got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the second then solo runs in the fourth and fifth. The Wildcats got to 4-3 but were unable to tie or take the lead. Ben Wetzler gave OSU 7.2 innings with Boyd coming in for the save getting the Beavers back to Omaha for the first time since 2007. This is the fifth time the program has made the CWS (1952, 2005, ’06, ’07, ’13) with the last two resulting in National Championships.

Saturday, June 15 – Mississippi State Bulldogs (48-18)/SEC v. 3 Oregon State Beavers (50-11), Noon/ESPN2
Sunday, June 16 – UCLA Bruins (44-17) v. LSU Tigers (57-9)/SEC, 5 pm/ESPN
