PAC-12 Baseball Weekend Recap (June 28/College World Series Edition)

The Conference of Champions remains so in the world of college baseball with UCLA sweeping Mississippi State in the College World Series Finals. The Bruins who lost in 2010 to South Carolina finished the job with a 10-0 postseason run.

College World Series Recap –
(UCLA-Mississippi State): Both schools entered the 2013 College World Series championship series in search of their first baseball national championship. In game one UCLA jumped to the lead with a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Adam Plutko made the start and went six innings allowing one run on four hits with a couple strikeouts. The Bruins bullpen of James Kaprielian, Zack Weiss and David Berg kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard. Offensively Eric Filia went 2-of-3 driving in two runs and Pat Valaika also helped with 2-for-4 with a run driven in.
(Mississippi State-UCLA): Nick Vander Tuig got the ball with the chance to clinch UCLA’s first National Championship and 109th in school history. Vander Tuig was up to the challenge going eight innings allowing six hits, striking out six before giving the ball to Berg who got the last three outs. The Bruins offense again struck in the first inning but didn’t just stop there getting seven more runs over the next seven innings. Filia again was a driving force for the UCLA offense driving in five going 2-for-3, Kevin Kramer, Valiaka and Cody Regis drove in runs. Pluko was named Most Outstanding Player during the CWS.
