Oregon Football is right around the corner and I am not usually a big believer in Preseason Lists, but I’ll give the ESPN ‘Ultimate Road Trip’ list of the Best Games to see in the Pac 12 an exception. Oregon breaks into the list with a ‘must see’ matchup in Seattle against the Washington Huskies in Week 7 on Saturday October 12th. (I have a haunting suspicion they will be on the list one more time….maybe in early November).
Kevin Gemmel from ESPN likes the matchup because at some point Washington is going to get a win in the series. Maybe. It’s been almost a decade of losing to the Ducks, but for some reason every year there is hope for a Huskies Victory to end Oregon’s winning streak in the series.
The big games on Washington’s schedule before they face the Ducks include BYU to open the season on August 31st, a road trip to Big 10 Country in Illinois on September 14th and they begin Pac 12 play hosting Arizona and facing Stanford down on the farm before facing Oregon in Seattle. I highly doubt Washington will be undefeated at that point, but I guess anything is possible.
Some of the cool stats from ESPN on this series include Oregon outscoring the Huskies 391-158 for the series(since Washington’s last win about a decade ago). The closest game was in 2011 when Oregon won by just 17 points and on offense the Ducks piled up not 465 yards on Offense in 2007, but 465 yards Rushing.
I don’t see the Huskies on the winning end of this one. Oregon knows how to play in loud environments away from home and there is no reason to believe with the Ducks talent they won’t quiet the Husky crowd after just two minutes of gameplay when they lead 45-0 on three scoring drives of 15 seconds, two DAT kickoff returns for touchdowns, an Olumu return on a pickoff and a field goal from Wogan.
