Before the game between Oregon and Nicholls even started on Saturday many knew the Ducks would take the game by a big margin. The Oregon Starters in nearly three quarters of action dominated the FBS team from Louisiana in just about every category. Time of Possession did go the way of the Colonels(40:14 to Oregon’s 19:46). When it came to the X’s and O’s and rushing and passing yards the big guns came out for the Ducks in a school record 772 yards of total offense in the 66-3 domination of Nicholls State.
It was also the first time in Oregon History that three players recorded 100 yard rushing days. Running Back De’Anthony Thomas carried 18 times for 128 yards, Quarterback Marcus Mariota carried 5 times for 113 yards and Running Back Byron Marshall had 8 carries for 124 yards. Both Thomas and Mariota had two touchdowns each and Marshall had one – for the Rushing Starters on Offense. Oregon ripped off 500 yards on the ground while holding Nicholls to under 100 yards for the game (87)
In the passing game Nicholls aired it out twice as much as the Ducks going 25-50 to Oregon’s 15-26. The Receiving day went to Wideout Josh Huff who pulled in several 30+ yard passes from Mariota with ease. On the day he caught 5 passes for 118 yards. Bralon Addison managed 2 catches for 42 yards. Oregon doubled the output for yards per pass(10.5 to 5.1).
If there is one position where Oregon has depth it is the Running Back position. Sophomore Coly Lyerla did not make an appearance until the third quarter(basically as the third string running back) He went 3 for 17 with a touchdown.
Kicker Alajandro Maldanado made a field goal and six extra points. Freshman kicker Matt Wogan made three extra points but wasn’t able to show off his talent as the punter. The Ducks did not punt once in the game.
Oregon now travels East to Charlottsville Virginia to take on the Cavaliers on Saturday at Scott Stadium(12:30PT ABC/ESPN2).
