BCS Chaos Could Ensue This Weekend

There are several games on the slate this weekend that should warrant your attention if you are a fan of college football. Two of the ones that should not include #1 Alabama vs Chattanooga and #2 Florida State vs a 1-9 Idaho team. I am not expecting let downs for either of these games.
The big game of the weekend as far as Championship implications happens Saturday night as Baylor visits a one loss Oklahoma State. Oh, how it would be different if they did not lost to West Viriginia. As it is this is a true test for Baylor. They have rolled over opponents so far this season, including a 63-34 win last week vs Texas Tech. Baylor is led by Junior Quarterback Bryce Petty who has thrown for just under 3000 yards on the year along with 24 touchdowns to just one interception. Oklahoma State has gone through a change at QB in recent weeks changing out J.W. Walsh for Clint Chelf, who will start against Baylor on Saturday night.
Combined the Cowboys Signal callers have combined for just over 25oo yards through the air to go with 20 touchdowns and 10 inteceptions between them. On the ground the lean goes to Baylor and former Oregon Duck Lache Seastrunk who is having a National attention grabbing season with just under 900 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns. Oh, and did I mention his speed. He should return this week after sustaining a groin injury recently.
If the Cowboys upset the Bears it would put Ohio State back in the drivers seat so to speak for the National Championship….maybe. If Baylor tops Oklahoma State they will in all likelyhood jump Ohio State for #3 and the crazy thing is the Buckeyes can’t do anything about it. Thankfully next season this won’t be an issue – unless your on the outside looking in that is. An actual playoff system will be in effect, but this year Urban Meyer and Company may have to be undefeated and headed to the Rose Bowl – or perhaps they will lose to Michigan State, which if the fates allow the Oregon Ducks to win out and get to the Rose Bowl a matchup that will happen again next September.
Oregon is close to a three touchdown favorite on Saturday against Arizona who is not ranked in the polls or the BCS. However Oregon seems to have a Quarterback running problem, which may come back to haunt them. Ducks QB Marcus Mariota in recent weeks has been hampered by an MCL strain. He has not taken off with his blazing speed in recent weeks and that has me concerned going into this game. He did say he is close to 100 percent. The Wildcats Defense may have an easier day if the Oregon Redshirt Sophomore can’t use his feet. The game could then fall to the legs of Arizona Running Back Ka’Deem Carey, who has rushed for 100 yards or more in 13 straight games. Probably not the momentum shift the Ducks want. Oregon has enough weapons on the field that this will likely not be the case, but you never know.
Every week is a big week in college football. This one is no different. The coming weeks will help shape not only this seasons Bowl Picture but the perception going into next season. Right now both are equally as important to the game.
