Oregon and Cal State Fullerton played Game 2 of a three game series at PK Park in Eugene on Saturday March 1st. KPNWSports

Saturday was the nicest day we have had this year so far in the Eugene/Springfield area and Oregon Freshman Starting Pitcher Matt Krook took advantage of the afternoon start at PK Park against USC. It did not start that way. The storm clouds started early at PK Park as the Ducks strikeout leader allowed runners to reach first and second in just the 2nd inning before he settled down. For the game he went 7 1/3 innings and the Ducks gave him seven runs of support before he left the game courtesy of Catcher Jack Kruger with an RBI double, Mitchell Tolman with two RBI doubles(Tolman now has 20 RBI’s on the season) and A.J. Balta’s home run in the third inning where four Ducks crossed the plate.

In four games as a Duck Krook has a 2.13 ERA. In the game against USC he had four walks and six strikeouts. He entered the game on Saturday with an 0-1 record and earned the victory for his first collegiate win. One thing I have noticed with Krook is he has a great delivery, but needs to cut down on his walks. It may just be a matter of settling down in games. He has now settled in as Oregon’s Saturday starter which should give him plenty of opportunity to work on his game.

The final game of the series with the Trojans will be available on the Pac-12 Live Stream on Sunday(Noon PT, Pac-12 Live Stream).
