Oregon Ducks Softball Set for Weekend Showdown With Third Ranked Arizona State
Oregon Softball hosts Utah Valley at Howe Field. KPNWSports
The Oregon Softball team(46-5, 17-1 Pac-12) is on a nice roll winning twelve consecutive games and six out of the last seven series vs Pac-12 teams. They remain the number on team in the country with a target on their backs and that target may get hit this weekend as Arizona State comes to town to challenge the top team in the nation. The Wildcats(42-7, 13-4 Pac-12) enter the games this weekend in third place. They also bring one of the top pitchers in the country with them. It will also mark the first time that the number three team has met the number one team this season.
Oregon has star pitcher Starter Cheridan Hawkins has led the staff to a 1.74 ERA. As far has hitting the ball the Oregon Ducks are hitting .347 as a team in 2014. Recently early leads that have been big have been the decider. The matchup to watch this weekend pits strikeout leaders against each other. Oregon Starter Cheridan Hawkins and Arizona State Starter Dallas Escobedo will face off on Friday, and likely again on Sunday. If you go back to last season the Oregon Ducks dropped one Pac-12 series all year. It was to Arizona State so this year’s game at home is very important.
There are less than two weeks left in the regular season and the Oregon Ducks are looking to position themselves – right where they are – for the postseason and an NCAA Hosting Berth. The games this weekend at Howe Field are Friday(5pm), Saturday(4pm), and Sunday(2pm).
