PAC-12 Football Weekend Recap Week 5

UCLA made the biggest statement of week five blasting Arizona State in Tempe to kick off the week. Both bay area schools picked up close wins while Washington State and USC were victorious this week.

Here are all the results from this weekend of PAC-12 conference play.

Thursday, September 25 –

11 UCLA Bruins (4-0, 1-0) 62 @ 15 Arizona State Sun Devils (3-1, 1-1) 27: When it was 17-6 it seemed like ASU had everything going their way, the Bruins then went on a 56-10 run. An 11-point deficit turned into a 10 point halftime lead for UCLA. Jim Mora’s defense forced four turnovers that helped fuel a big road win and change the perception of his team. Brett Hundley had five incompletions on 23 passes while throwing for 355 yards with four scores then running for 72 more on the ground with a touchdown. Paul Perkins rushed for 137 yards on 14 carries in the route. In defeat Mike Bercovici threw for 488 yards in place of the injured Taylor Kelly but did throw two interceptions. Next up for 8 UCLA hosts Utah (3-1, 0-1) at 7:30 pm/ESPN. Arizona State travels to LA for a meeting with 16 USC (3-1, 2-0) 4:30 pm/FOX.

Saturday, September 27 –

16 Stanford Cardinal (3-1, 1-1) 20 @ Washington Huskies (4-1, 0-1) 13: Chris Peterson is widely known for taking chances but a fake punt. Stanford then took possession and scored late to get the important road victory over previously unbeaten Washington. Not the prettiest of games Ty Montgomery had over 100 yards, rushing, receiving and return yards. Another stout effort for the Cardinal defense but their redzone offense continues to struggle. Next up for 14 Stanford is a trip to South Bend against rival 9 Notre Dame (4-0) at 12:30 pm/NBC. Washington after a bye week returns to action on October 11 and will travel to Cal (3-1, 1-1) at 3 pm/PAC-12 Network.

Colorado Buffaloes (2-3, 0-2) 56 @ California Golden Bears (3-1, 1-1) 59 F/2OT: Easily the game of the day plus one that Colorado will feel they let get away. CU led by 14 at half before needing to tie the game a couple times in the fourth quarter. California made a goal line stand that sealed double overtime victory a week after a last second loss. Sefo Liufau and Jared Goff both threw for over 455 yards while both had seven touchdowns against one interception. This allowed CU’s Nelson Spruce had another big day with 179 yards with three TDs. Stephen Anderson caught seven Goff passes 136 yards with a score. Next up for Colorado is a home game versus Oregon State (3-1, 0-1) at 1 pm/PAC-12 Network. California travels to the Palluz against Washington State (2-3, 1-1) at 7:30 pm/PAC-12 Network.

Washington State Cougars (2-3, 1-1) 28 @ Utah Utes (3-1, 0-1) 27: After the opening quarter it was 21-0 Utah and 24-7 at half. Washington State which isn’t thought of for defense outscored their opponents 21-3 en route to one point victory. Connor Halliday threw 61 passes this week throwing four touchdowns with River Cracraft and Vince Mayle each having 120 yard receiving games. Utah’s Devontae Booker rushed for 178 yards with a score. Next up for Washington State is a home game against Cal (3-1, 1-1) at 7:30 pm/PAC-12 Network. Utah travels to the Rose Bowl for a contest against 8 UCLA (4-0, 1-0) at 7:30 pm/ESPN

Oregon State Beavers (3-1, 0-1) 10 @ 18 Southern California Trojans (3-1, 2-0) 35: USC went from tied at seven after the first quarter to outscoring their visitors 28-3 over the final three quarters. The Trojans defense held Sean Mannion in check and intercepted two passes. Javorius Allen had another 100 yard day while Justin Davis added 82 yards to the rushing attack. How good was SC’s defense? They held a potent OSU offense to 181 yards of total offense while holding the Beavers to just 58 yards rushing. Oregon State heads to Boulder for a contest against Colorado (2-3, 0-2) at 1 pm/PAC-12 Network. Southern Cal hosts Arizona State (3-1, 1-1) at 4:30 pm/FOX.
