Oregon Ducks vs Coppin State, Young Looks to Lead Talented Newcomers
The day has finally arrived for College Basketball fans. The first day of games that count and the nightcap tonight involves the Oregon Ducks who play host to the Coppin State Eagles. The school is located in Baltimore, Maryland and apparently enjoys trips to the Pacific Northwest. Last season they opened at Oregon State and pulled off a win over the Beavers. This season they open in Eugene at Matthew Knight Arena.
In 2013-14 Coppin State went 12-20 and 7-9 in the MEAC. Last season they were also ranked 211th in the NCAA in scoring averaging just under seventy points per game. Oregon had the eleventh best scoring offense in the country averaging eighty one points per game. Tonight marks the 110th season of Oregon Ducks Basketball and history is on the side of the home team winning the last sixteen consecutive home openers.
Coppin State is led by Senior Forward Arnold Fripp and Senior Guard Daquan Brickhouse. The team has five seniors on the roster entering the season and Brickhouse recently told CoppinStateSports.com, they are excited for the season to start, “”If we abide by the coaches system, listen and understand what they are teaching us, I think we have a chance to bring home a championship,” Their task starts tonight in Eugene and a team in the Oregon Ducks that are looking for young players to step up and provide their own leadership.
Oregon has Joseph Young, who led the Pac-12 Conference in scoring last season, but many of the faces from the 2013 season are no longer with the team. Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman will look to young talent to find chemistry this season and lead the team, and there is no reason to think they won’t.
Young is the leader of this team and in two exhibition games they put up solid numbers with several Freshman picking up double digits in scoring including Dwayne Benjamin who is averaging 16.5 points per game in exhibition. AutzenZoo will have coverage tonight on our Twitter Feed and a full recap after the game.
For those that do not receive the Pac-12 Network, Pac-12.com is offering ‘Full Court Friday’, Live and Free Coverageof all the games today on their site.
