Oregon Falls to VCU in the Legends Classic, Ducks Lose Second in a Row
The Oregon Ducks suffered their second loss of the season with a shorthanded bench. Oregon Guard Joseph Young needed to have a hot hand in the Legends Classic, but came up with just nine points against the VCU Rams and missed eleven of his thirteen shots on Wednesday night in the Consolation game loss.
Oregon is now 0-2 against ranked opponents this season and Freshman Dwayne Benjamin, who had eleven rebounds on Tuesday against Michigan left the game with the Wolverines with an injury to his ankle. He did not play on Wednesday night and it showed. Oregon Head Coach Dana Altman had to shuffle his lineup and with just seven scholarship players for the season, the mix did not work in the Ducks favor.
Oregon did find a way to stick around in the game. Freshman Dillon Brooks scored fifteen points. Elgin Cook added eleven points and had Oregon within one point, but for the second game in a row the Ducks could not get the lead. VCU pulled away early in the game and throughout led by as many as fourteen points allowing Oregon to never have or take the lead in the game.
Benjamin now has a few days to hopefully get back into the lineup as Oregon hosts Portland State on Sunday, November 30th at 5pm Pacific Time.
