Oregon Earns Number Ten Seed, Will Host First Round of NCAA Tournament
It has been an up and down season for the Oregon Women’s Volleyball team. When it began, Head Coach Jim Moore wasn’t quite sure what he was going to get. Now, four months later Oregon finds itself ranked sixteenth in the country and sporting a 13-3 record at home and 6-6 record away, which was good enough for a ten seed in the NCAA Tournament. The team RPI remained high all season even with losses and ended up eight in the category. It was good enough for Oregon to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament at Matthew Knight Arena starting Thursday night.
The teams coming to play in the four team pod in Eugene include LSU, Oklahoma and the Thursday night opponent, Santa Clara. The winner would face either LSU or Oklahoma on Friday night. Santa Clara finished the season 22-9, better than Oregon. The appearance marks the twentieth NCAA Appearance for Oregon Volleyball. Overall the Pac-12 has a record ten teams in the NCAA Tournament this season. If Oregon wins this weekend they may run into a familiar opponent down the road.
The first and second rounds tip off on Friday with Oregon hosting Santa Clara at 7pm Pacific Time. Friday’s game will pit Thursday’s winners at 4pm Pacific Time, followed by a Watch Party for the Pac-12 Championship Game for the Oregon Football team who faces Arizona. (6pm, PT FOX).
