Oregon Football Recruiting: Ducks Add RB Merritt to Mix for 2015
The Oregon Ducks may have lost a big Offensive Weapon with Quarterback Marcus Mariota entering the NFL Draft in May, but they picked up a big commitment from a Running Back, an area that will not likely be one of concern for Mark Helfrich in 2015.
Kirk Merritt, a four-star recruit out of Destreshan Louisiana has committed to play for the Oregon Ducks and is likely to be the twenty-third member of the 2015 recruiting class that will sign tomorrow on National Signing Day. Oregon has a lot of talent in the backfield entering next year.
Running Back Royce Freeman, who became the first true freshman to rush for over one-thousand yards in a season will return, along with Byron Marshall who spent more of the 2014 catching passes than rushing the ball – he has become a hybrid of sorts for the Oregon Ducks. The team will also have Thomas Tyner and we can hope he will have a healthy season.
Merritt brings plenty of talent that was on showcase earlier this year in The Opening where his performance opened some eyes. He also won the Sparq National Championship.
It is not clear right now if the Oregon Ducks will redshirt Merritt for his Freshman season. With the bevy of talent at the position one would think it is a possibility. National Signing Day is Wednesday and Spring Football is not too far away.
