NFL Free Agency: Former Oregon CB Thurmond Signs With Philadelphia

Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly is in the process of rebuilding his team from the ground up, it seems. Fans around the country, including at Oregon are looking at the moves he is making and likely thinking he is nuts. Last week he traded Running Back LeSean McCoy to Buffalo for Kiko Alonso and on Tuesday he traded his Quarterback, Nick Foles to St Louis for Sam Bradford. The pieces are starting to come together it seems.

Early on Wednesday the team came to an agreement with Free Agent Cornerback Walter Thurmond, previously with the Giants and the Seattle Seahawks. Philadelphia also signed Byron Maxwell from Seattle to a long term six year deal. Thurmond played with Maxwell in Seattle. He is the tenth player that will be on the roster from the Oregon Ducks, Kelly’s former team, in 2015.

The Free Agency signing period began on Tuesday at 4pm Pacific Time. Philly still has some work to do at key positions. The Eagles also have an agreement in place with Free Agent Running Back Ryan Mathews. Another name the team had an eye on was Frank Gore, but he turned a cold shoulder to Philly and signed with Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Of course, no one but Kelly knows what the 2015 Offense for Philadelphia will look like, or if these moves are in an effort to try and land Quarterback Marcus Mariota in the NFL Draft next month. Time will tell on this one, but from this writers standpoint, you have to give Kelly the opportunity. He has not steered the ship wrong in the past. I guess there is a first time for everything, and it looks like the iceberg is dead ahead. Time will tell in the days ahead if the ship will turn or not.
