Oregon Ducks Host Michigan State For The First Time On The Diamond

The Oregon Ducks will continue non-conference play this weekend welcoming in Michigan State from the Big Ten Conference. George Horton’s team has been in a slump of late and is coming off a series of weekday games where they went 1-1 losing to Portland on Tuesday and beating Seattle on Wednesday with a stellar effort from the pitching staff. This weekend the Spartans come to town and the Ducks will look to build a new winning streak.

This will be the Spartans second trip out west to meet an opponent this season. Michigan State has been hot of late getting double digit hits in their last six games and as a team hitting at a .264 clip. They have also committed just three errors in the last six games. On the other hand, the Ducks entering the week committed multiple errors against both Arizona and Portland over the last week. One error against Portland allowed three unearned runs to score for the Pilots.

Junior Outfielder Cam Gibson has ten stolen bases for the Spartans and Ryan Krill has gotten on base in twelve consecutive games. I’m not sure if it is due to the Offense of Michigan State or of Oregon wants to attempt getting off to a good start, but Cole Irvin, recently the Sunday starter has been moved to the Friday night starter for Oregon this week.  This will be the first meeting between the Ducks and Spartans on the Diamond. Oregon has met a Big Ten team each of the last two seasons facing Ohio State.

Michigan State is 0-4 this season against the Pac-12, 0-1 vs Oregon State and 0-3 vs Cal.

Oregon and Michigan State start their three games series on Friday at 6pm, Game 2 is set for Saturday at 2pm and the finale on Easter Sunday is at 2pm.
