Oregon Takes Eugene Regional With Win Over North Dakota State

The North Dakota State Bison gave the Oregon Ducks pretty much all they could handle on Friday morning, pulling to within 4-3 in the top of the ninth. It was as close as they would get. The rematch on Saturday in the Regional Championship game saw Senior Karissa Hovinga take the mound rather than ace Cheridan Hawkins. Hovinga thew a gem.

Oregon’s Offense was ready and Hailey Decker helped out early with a two run home run in the first inning. Hovinga threw a two hit, one run game. It was a one-hitter until the sixth when an error to first base for an out cost her a run. Cheridan Hawkins entered to get the final two outs of the inning, one by strikeout, the other catching a runner at second base tying to steal to end the game and the Regional with the Ducks on top.

Oregon will now host the NCAA Super Regional Round this upcoming weekend. It will be determined later today what teams will be coming to Eugene for the final weekend of softball at Howe Field before it is renovated for next season.

In six seasons Head Coach Mike White is 18-0 in the Regional Round. Tha All-Regional team was also announced for the tournament on Sunday and there were six Oregon Ducks on the list including Cheridan Hawkins who was named the MVP the the Regional Tournament.
