Oregon Ducks End Season In Extra Innings Loss to Iowa

The Oregon Ducks up and down 2015 season came to an end in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday in an extra innings loss to Iowa 2-1. Oregon came through with a run in the first inning, but that was all the Offense could do.

Oregon made it interesting in the ninth with Mitchell Tolman and Phil Craig-St. Louis both reaching base, St Louis was on third. Scott Heineman was walked and Iowa moved an extra man to the infield. Brandon Cuddy then struck out and J.B. Bryant hit into an inning ending double play ending the threat.

The Ducks buckled down for the bottom of the ninth and were able to get the game to extras where they had a chance. Stephen Nagosek who has been key to the Oregon Ducks success in the bullpen had a balk call in the eleventh with two outs, the next Iowa batter won the game with a two-out single scoring the winning run.

The season started with promise, and a top ten ranking before things started to fall apart for George Horton’s team. They rebounded nicely and had a strong finish, good enough for a berth in the post season. Oregon came just two wins shy of their fourth consecutive forty win season. They end the year at 38-25.
