The Oregon Ducks post season chances last month hinged on a successful month of May which saw the team play extremely well winning series after series against Pac-12 opponents, and finishing the season winning nine of their final ten regular season games including a big series win against the UCLA Bruins, who at the time were ranked second in the nation.

The Bruins were tabbed the top team in the College world Series. For Oregon it was an early exit in the Regional Round to Iowa on Sunday. As the top seed, UCLA was the last team to likely take a spot in the Super Regional Round as seven of the eight teams ahead of them won. The Bruins lost to Maryland 2-1 on Thursday ending their bid for a National Championship.

What was even harder to take, they lost on their home turf, in the Los Angeles Regional. Maryland had to travel the country to play and won. Terrapins pitching held the Bruins to three hits on the night and a .096 average for the game. UCLA had to fight to get to this point. The Bruins lost 4-1 to Maryland on Saturday and had to win two games on Sunday, which the did, to get back to the Final only to lose.

Both Oregon and UCLA are out of the NCAA Tournament and one team was expected to make more of a run for the final prize. Both teams will have to wait for next season. Both teams will have the talent and it is likely Oregon will have to play the Bruins on the road. That could be the series of the year in the Pac-12.
