The Oregon Ducks went into Wednesday likely thinking they had a good chance at getting five-star talent Jamal Murray. They had the connection with Coach Mike Mennega. They had a solid track record from players coming down from Canada to play for Oregon. However in the end it was not enough to nab Murray. He committed to play for the Kentucky Wildcats and John Calipari.

Murray made his announcement on TSN, the Canadian Sports Networks with a Canadian flag draped over him.

College Basketball Talk says

that with the five-star recruit, Kentucky will have one of the top back courts in the country in 2015. The Wildcats could look to top their finish from a year ago at 38-1 and should again be contenders to go far in the NCAA Tournament.

SBNation sees the commitment to Kentucky as a surprise and points to what the Wildcats already have for 2016 including two talented point guards, outside of Murray. Sophomore Tyler Ulis and incoming Freshman Isiah Briscoe will likely take the position spots on the floor. It is unclear where Murray will fit into the puzzle for playing time, which is why many, myslef included thought that Oregon would be the better fit.

Oregon will be just fine without Murray. Elgin Cook and Shot Block Specialist Jordan Bell will be joined by Transfer Dylan Ennis. As a team the Ducks should be a contender in the Pac-12 Conference in 2015 and get to take another shot at making the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row.
