It is never easy to start the season on the road, but the Oregon Ducks Women’s Volleyball team did just that. They managed to win the first five games of the season including taking the trophy for the Temple Invitational beating Temple, St Joseph’s and Navy in Philadelphia. The team then picked up wins in New York against LIU Brooklyn and in Washington DC beating George Washington.

Oregon then hit a rough patch in losing in three straight sets to Florida, losing to Nebrasa 3-2 after winning the first two sets in the match and also losing to Texas-San Antonio. Oregon was looking to end the losing streak on Wednesday.

The Ducks battled to take the first set, but returned to winning form in the second with a more dominant performance. Martenne Bettendorf hit .471 for the match and had seventeen kills in the three set victory over Texas State according to GoDucks.com.

The win brings a three game losing streak to an end and puts Oregon in a good position closing out the non-conference slate at 6-3. I would have expected at least two losses to begin the season, against Nebraska and Florida. Three is not bad considering every game was a road game to begin the year.

Oregon now has some time to rest before beginning Pac-12 Conference play at Oregon State on September 24th. The Ducks first home game of the season is on Friday, October 2nd as they play host to Colorado. The match is set to start at 8pm and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Networks.
