Oregon Ducks Fall in Double Overtime To Washington State

As Oregon and Washington State approached kickoff the rain fell at Autzen Stadium, but it subsided to a mostly cloudy sky just time for kickoff. The Cougars began the game on Offense and went right to work with Luke Falk Starting for Washington State. Falk led the team down the field with a pass to Robert Craycraft followed by two running plays that appeared to catch Oregon off guard. Five plays later and Falk found Gabe Marks in the end zone for a touchdown giving WSU a 7-0 lead. The Oregon Defensive Secondary appeared sluggish as Falk completed several long passes down field.

The Oregon Ducks would look to even the score with Jeff Lockie leading the charge. Mark Helfich would see his team starting at the 28 yard line. Royce Freeman would make his presence felt early taking the ball to the Washington State 42 yard line on the first Offensive play of the game. Bralon Addison would pick up 16 yards to the WSU 15. The drive would stall, but the Ducks would get three off the foot of Aiden Schneider with a 29 yard field goal.
Washington State’s next drive would go three and out and the Cougars punt would go twenty-four yards giving Oregon good field position to start their second drive.

Jeff Lockie would start the drive with a 10 yard catch from Devon Allen and a pass and catch by Royce Freeman setting up Oregon inside the Washington State 10 yard line. Quarterback Taylor Alie would replace Lockie and take the ball into the end zone putting Oregon up 10-7 on the Cougars. The Cougars would look to answer.

On their next drive Falk would get the team with the help of Wide Receiver Dom Williams who was of . taken out bounds on a statement hit by Charles Nelson that warranted a crowd reaction. Nelson’s speed on Defense is something that will bear watching. The Oregon Defense would force another three and out and it was fourth down and eighteen at the 42 yard line. The Cougars punt would go twenty four yards setting up the Ducks again with solid field position.

Taylor Allie would remain in the game at Quarterback. A rainbow would appear over Autzen Stadium, but after a nice running play the drive would stall giving the ball back to Washington State.

The second quarter would begin with Washington State on a third and two that would fall incomplete. The Cougars would line up to go for it and it would fall incomplete as Oregon would take over at the 44 yard line. The drive would stall, but Ian Wheeler would punt the ball twenty-eight yards as the ball would go out of bounds at the nine yard line where Falk and the Cougs would takeover.
The drive would end on a fourth down quarterback sack by Terrodney Prevot forcing a fourth down punt. Washington State Punter Zach Charme would punt the ball into the end zone for a touchback as Oregon would takeover.
Stat: Terrodney Prevot set a career high against Washington State with six tackles – through a quarter and a half.

A Taj Griffin hand off from Lockie would go 39 yards after the first play of the drive went no where. Oregon would get into the redzone before the ball was fumbled by Bralon Addison ending a scoring threat for the Ducks and giving the ball back to Washington State on the 12 yard line. The drive would end at the Oregon 28 as Terrodney Prevot would force a fumble that the Ducks would recover and takeover.

Running Back Royce Freeman took the next drive pretty much on his shoulders rushing for 42 yards and ending the drive with a two yard run into the end zone. Freeman would go over one-hundred yards on the day just before halftime. Washington State would have a chance to counter before the first half came to an end.

Washington State would score with 9 seconds to go in the half pulling to within three of Oregon after a ten play seventy five yard drive in under two minutes. It was 17-14 Oregon and the Ducks would get the ball first to start the second half.
Oregon would go three and out on their first drive of the second half. Falk and Washington State would take over in the rain and Tavares Martin would take it into the enz zone for the Cougars score giving them the lead 21-17 over the Ducks. It was a short four play 54 yard drive for the Cougars. Oregon would need to respond.

They would not. Quarterback Jeff Lockie would force Oregon to punt as Ian Wheeler would kick the ball to the 26 yard line where Washington State would take over. The Ducks would hold on Defense and almost get to Falk. The 4th down put was received by Bralon Addison and the Ducks would take over at the 30 yard line.

Jeff Lockie would take off on a third down play and go for twenty-five yards, the longest run of his career, keeping the Ducks drive alive. He reversed field twice and ran for more like fifty yards to pick up the thirty five, but it was some nice footwork by Lockie. The drive would end without points as a 4th down pass to Devon Allen went incomplete giving the Cougars the ball back at the thirty-eight yard line.

Tui Talia would start the Defense with a tackle for loss and Falk would be sacked by Tyson Coleman on 2nd down. It was 3rd and 18 as the Ducks Defense looked to get the ball back to the Offense. DeForest Buckner would sack Falk on 3rd down making it 4th and 25. The Cougars would punt.

Taj Griffin would break free and take the ball thirty-three yards to the Washington State 13 yard line on first down. Two plays later Royce Freeman would take it in for a touchdown giving Oregon back the lead 24-21. Following the drive, Washington State had nineteen total first downs in the game to Oregon with fourteen.
On the next drive, the Oregon Defense again came to work holding Cougars to a long third down which was complete to Gabe Parks putting the ball on the Oregon 33 yard line. Johnny Ragin would pick up a tackle for loss of three yards on Parks. It was again third and long – thirteen yards to be exact. The Oregon Defense came to play today. Falk would go back to pass and have the ball batted down by Juwaan Williams. The Cougs would attempt a 53 yard field goal that was no good giving the ball back to Oregon at their own 36 yard line.

As the fourth quarter began Oregon faced a third and 10 and Jeff Lockie would pick up nine bringing up fourth down. Royce Freeman would pick up the first down and about fifteen additional yards. That was all Oregon would get on the drive as Lockie was sacked and hurried forcing the Ducks to punt. Wheeler would punt to Gabe Marks who would return the ball to the 25 yard line scampering up the sideline. Luke Falk would go back to work for Washington State.

Oregon would get another sack on the ensuing drive by Christian French making it third and 13 bringing up fourth down. The Cougars would punt. The sun would again begin to appear over the North side of the stadium, just in time for Oregon to make a move.

Royce Freeman would rush nine yards then take the ball inside the twenty yard line of Washington State. It was fifty-eight yards on two plays moving him over the two-hundred yard mark on the day. Taj Griffin would get the ball on the next play and take on the pylon on the right side of the end zone, but was pushed out of bounds before breaking the plane of the end zone. It was first and goal from the one. Royce Freeman would take in his third touchdown on the day.

Arrion Springs and picked up by Tyree Robinson, but the Cougars had some life left and tied the game with one second to go sending it to Overtime. In the second overtime the Cougars scored on a touchdown pass to Dom Williams and a four yard pass to Robert Lewis. Oregon could not counter as Jeff Lockie threw an interception in the end zone and the Oregon Ducks fell to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the Pac-12 Conference.

Oregon visits Washington next weekend in the hopes to get back to .500 in Pac-12 play.
