The Tennessee Titans are back in the win column thanks to the play of the year at Nissan Stadium. In a season marked by tough losses, Marcus Mariota provided a special moment with an 87 yard run for a touchdown. The last time that happened by a signal caller was in 1960.

It has not been an easy season for the Tennessee Titans. The had an 11 game home losing streak going back to last season entering the game with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Titans also had just three wins on the season. Their playoff chances for 2015 are likely gone as the team will play spoiler the rest of the way and look forward to 2016. It could have been easy to throw in the towel on the season, but that is not how the last month of the season is going to happen in Tennessee.

On Sunday, when many Oregon fans were waiting to see where their team was headed for Bowl Season, Twitter and Social Media erupted with a tweet that could only make you smile. Former Oregon Ducks Quarterback Marcus Mariota accomplished something that has rarely been done by a Quarterback in the National Football League and it has not been done since 1960. It was an early Christmas present of what is to come from this young man.

It was a 3rd and 7 play that had the Jaguars stopped the Titans would have likely given the Tennessee their 10th loss. Mariota dropped back  and the pocked collapsed, so what did he do? He ran – for 87 yards for the score with blockers set up all the way to the end zone. The commentators after the play even said “you don’t see a Quarterback do that.” My response – You do now. You will also likely see him do it a few more times in his career in the National Football League.

The play on Sunday is  handful of records that have fallen for the former Oregon QB. He has the most yards set by an NFL Rookie in a Tennessee uniform. His red zone Offense is still at the top of the National Football League and now an 87 yard scamper to the end zone for a score. Not only was it a touchdown, but also a win. The Titans 4th on the season snapping their 11 game home loss winning streak.Mariota was 20 for 29 for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns to go with 1 interception.

Fans in Tennessee are waking up on Monday morning now knowing the talent they have at the Quarterback position and now special Marcus Mariota is. Now, they have to do their job in the draft to protect him. The Titans now hit the road for 3 of their final 4 games starting with a trip to New York to take on the Jets before traveling to New England to visit the Patriots.
