On Thursday Morning new broke that TCU Quarterback Trevone Boykin was suspended for the game against the Oregon Ducks. This is a big advantage for Mark Helfrich and Company, of course, if Oregon lost Vernon Adams the story may be similar. The Offensive Production of Boykin cannot be replicated by anyone else on the team. 3500 yards, 30+ touchdowns for the season will not be participating in the Alamo Bowl. As the Oregon Ducks have done many times, the ‘next man up’ for TCU at the Quarterback position has thrown for just under 400 yards on the year in, for the most part, mop up duty this season.
"We expect a more fiery team because they lost something.Don Pellum on TCU playing without Quarterback Trevone Boykin"
Bram Hohlhousen is far from a household name this season. He does have a win under his belt, against Kansas where he threw 13 of 19 passes for 112 yards. He also played the following week against Oklahoma and threw two touchdowns in a loss 30-29. The Sooners fell on Thursday night to Clemson in the College Football Playoff.
The Oregon Ducks have done a great job all season using their scout team in practice to simulate certain players. Simulating opposing Quarterbacks and Running Backs have been one of their keys to success this season. It comes fairly easy when you have they types of athletes that Oregon has at their disposal. Similating a player like Boykin would have been a challenge, and I am sure their gameplan included him, but now the Oregon Ducks Defense will have an opportunity. An opportunity to play one of their best games of the entire season.
DeForest Buckner has been a beast and the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year will look forward to capitalizing on mistakes made by a TCU Quarterback who has not had a ton of experience in the backfield. Before the announcement on Thursday morning, the game was intriguing. Now, with Boykin out the challenge is bigger. TCU will play harder and decision making at the line of scrimmage could play in the favor of the Oregon Ducks is Hohlhousen makes a bad decision.
The Oregon Ducks and TCU Horned Frogs kickoff on Saturday at 3:45pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
