Former Oregon Ducks Running Back LeGarrette Blount has re-signed with the New England Patriots and will be with the team for the third consecutive season in 2016.
Chowder and Champions
LeGarrette Blount is close to ‘Jounryman’ status in his NFL Career. He started with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, then moved to Pittsburgh. For the third year in a row he will have a home in New England. The Patriots signed the former Oregon Running Back to a one year deal, terms were not disclosed.
Over the last two seasons he has rushed for close to 1000 yards combined along with nine touchdowns. He also caught a pass last season and had a forced fumble.
Blount played in 12 games last season and proved his durability with six starts before ending the season on Injured Reserve.
According to ESPN, the Patriots resigning Blount will not effect what they do in the upcoming NFL Draft. I would expect that New England will look to their future at Quarterback with Tom Brady aging, but comtinuing to show he is the ageless wonder on the football field year in and year out.
New England has seven Running Backs on the roster with Blount, James White, Dion Lewis, Brandon Bolden, James Develin, Joey Iosefa, and Donald Brown. Lewis received the bulk of the carries late last season when Blount was placed on IR.
