Day One Recap: It’s Good To Be A Duck

The 2016 U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials begin on Friday and run through July 10th. Athletes from around the country from both the professional level and the college level are in Eugene, Oregon and Hayward Field for a chance to represent the US in Rio. The competition begins today with just two finals in the Shotput and the longest distance race of the meet, the 10,000 Meters this evening.

The Oregon Ducks are well represented with 14 athletes at the Olympic Trials, the most from the Collegiate level. Many of the athletes from College were also here representing their schools last month at the NCAA Championships. They return, likely wearing their school colors with a chance to represent the Country in front of the World at the Olympics in Rio De Janiero next month.

On Friday, Oregon will have two current and two former athletes to keep an eye on. Up first, in the 800 Meter Qualifying Round, Raevyn Rogers will get things started(4:45pm), followed by Marcus Chambers in the 1500 Meter Qualifier(5:15pm). The Men’s 10,000 Meter Final will showcase several former Oregon Ducks including Galen Rupp and Erik Jenkins to close out the evening.
