Mark Helfrich broke the silence on ESPN Radio Friday after being fired earlier in the week.

In looking back at the season and reviewing things last Sunday, Helfrich was poised and collected. Two days later he was released from his contract as Head Coach of the Oregon Football.

ESPN Radio caught up with Helfrich and he had some interesting things to say about a former Oregon Coach and what may be ahead for the Football Program.

In learning about his fate, he was openly discouraged by the way he was let go, and anyone would be, “I thought they had a pretty good situation going, but they disagreed.”

Helfrich took a logical step in his mind, he reached out to Chip Kelly to see if he would return. The move says a lot about what kind of man the Oregon Ducks had as a Head Coach and it hurts a little after hearing that to know that he is now unemployed.

The 2016 season certainly had it’s faults, but not all of it was on Helfrich’s shoulders. We know know that Kelly is not interested in returning to the Oregon Ducks, but Helfrich added some additional insight into why according to 247Sports, “Chip has that challenge in his mind right now to make it right in the NFL….Reading between the lines, I think he wants to make it right, I think he wants to win at that level.”

Mark Helfrich went 37-16 as the Oregon Football Head Coach taking the team to the College Football Playoff and a National Championship Appearance in his time at the helm.
