Is Chip Kelly Waiting On The Atlanta Falcons?
Former Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly may soon hear his name called for an open Assistant Position in the NFL.
NFL teams cannot officially talk with new hires or potential new hires until the season is over. Atlanta will see their season conclude on Sunday at the conclusion of the Super Bowl.
Kelly was fired as Head Coach of the San Francisco 49ers following a rough season in the Bay Area. The talent was there, but injuries plagued the team almost from the start. Players inexperience with Chip Kelly’s system ultimately led to his dismissal following just one season in San Francisco.
Since January his name has been linked with several NFL Teams for Assistant Coaching Positions. Most recently his name linked with Jacksonville and Houston. Now the Atlanta Falcons may be in the mix. Falcons Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan will be coaching his final game with the team on Sunday in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots. He is expected to take Chip Kelly’s former job as Head Coach in San Francisco.

The Atlanta Falcons are averaging 420 yards per game, good enough for second in the League. They are first in points with 42. Two categories that are very comfortable for Chip Kelly. Add an All-Pro Quarterback coming off a Super Bowl and a high caliber Wide Receiver n Julio Jones and it could be the perfect opportunity.
An Atlanta option would give Kelly an opportunity to rebuild his image and get back to becoming a Head Coach in the NFL. I do not see going back to college as a viable option. His style of Offense is built for the next level.

As a Head Coach Kelly is 28-35. Atlanta’s playmakers could help reverse that trend.
