Oregon Ducks In The NFL: Offensive Lineman Geoff Schwartz Retires
Former Oregon Footbal Lineman Geoff Schwartz had an injury plagued career in the National Football League and announced his retirement on Monday.
Geoff Schwartz spent roughly nine seasons in the National Football League beginning with the Carolina Panthers who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2008 NFL Draft. He spent the first season on the Practice Squad before seeing an NFL Field for the first time in 2009. That seasonh e played in 16 games and saw three starts. He became a regular starting in all 16 games in 2010 before suffering a season-ending hip injury that sidelined him for 2011 according to Wikipedia.
In 2014 Schwartz was one of the most sought after Free Agents and signed a 4-year Deal with the New York Giants. He broke his toe in the third week of the Preseason and missed most of the regular season. Schwartz also spent time with Minnesota, Kansas City and most recently Detroit. He never made the roster with the Lions and retired on Tuesday.
"There’s nothing I regret from my career. I wish things in New York would have worked out better. I waited six years to sign that second contract, worked for it, and got it. But once I got to New York, I only played in 13 of 32 games, and I wasn’t close to being 100 percent healthy in any of those games.Geoff Schwartz explains his decision on SB Nation."
In the end, it was the injuries that led to the decision. He played in 74 games in the National Football League.
