The New Orleans Saints have parted ways with Safety Jairus Byrd to free up Salary Cap Space.
Former Oregon Duck Jairus Byrd signed a 6-year deal with the Saints three years ago. He was a standout in Buffalo and was one of the top free agents in 2014. Fast forward and now he has seen the field in limited spurts as injuries have plagued the Saints Safety.
Sean Payton and the Saints decided it was better to cut Byrd three seasons into a six year contract which means they will likely go after a Safety in the NFL Draft. Jairus Byrd may have an opportunity waiting back in Buffalo.
SB Nation said that the first divorce was somewhat amicable and a reconciliation could be in the cards. Jairus Byrd had the best years of his career with the Bills. In five seasons he saw the field and was a Defensive Machine racking up 22 interceptions in 73 games. Being in a spot so familiar could extend his career a few seasons.
Byrd was due to make around $8 million for the upcoming season. Whether he returns to Buffalo, his services will be needed. He will find a home somewhere in the NFL this season.
