It has been a few years since former Oregon Football Running Back Thomas Tyner Retired from Football for Medical Reasons, but he has had a change of heart.

Tyner could have the opportunity of a lifetime with the Oregon Ducks. A new coaching staff, a newly invigorated player who has the speed to win – but Tyner is not coming back to Eugene. He has decided to make a comeback in Corvallis for the Oregon State Beavers and Gary Anderson.

His reasons for not returning to play for Oregon are not his fault. When he took his Medical Retirement back in 2015, it made him ineligible to return to the Ducks, per NCAA Rules. In waiting two seasons before attempting a comeback, he also waives the standard requirement of waiting a season before playing again, making him eligible this upcoming season.

Tyner spoke with the Oregonian about his playing career and said he wasn’t content with the way it ended with Oregon, “”I think it’s time for me to get back, my football career didn’t end the way I wanted it to and I think I owe it to myself and everyone who looked up to me.”

In adding Tyner to the Backfield, Oregon State now has a solid 1-2 punch with Ryan Nall and Tyner. Nall averaged 6.5 yards per carry in 2016. If Tyner is able to regain his old form, the Beavers will have a nice change of pace for the backfield for 2017.
