Oregon Baseball: Starter David Peterson Named Semifinalist For Golden Spikes Award
Oregon Ducks Starting Pitcher David Peterson was one of the bright spots for the team in 2017 and his performance has him on the list for one of the top Amateur Pitching awards.
Peterson was one of the most awarded Ducks throughout the year and on Wednesday he was named a Semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award. It is given to the top Amateur Player in the country. The Oregon Junior has watched his MLB Draft Stock rise since the start of the season. He posted multiple double-digit strikeout games and finished the year sitting down 140 batters throwing just over 100 innings and posting a 2.51 ERA.
David Peterson finished second in the country in Strikeouts and Victories and finished with an 11-4 record. The Lefty was the Ace of the Staff and got the team off to a good start, but down the stretch the Oregon Offense was unable to come through with a hit that would get him the win.
With Peterson likely departing by way of the MLB Draft, Oregon has a staple of young pitching talent coming to Eugene next season. Peterson joins Tyler Anderson(2011) and Jimmy Sherfy(2012, 2013) to be recognized as a Semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award.
