David Peterson Signs With New York Mets, Reports To Single A
Former Oregon Ducks Starter David Peterson has agreed on a contract with the New York Mets.
Peterson was the Mets Top MLB Draft pick in the First Round and he will start his Professional Career in the Minor Leagues in Single A for Brooklyn. Time was running out for Draft picks to be signed and the New York Mets waited until the end to get him signed. The team had until 5pm Eastern Time on Friday.
While at Oregon, David Peterson had a stellar Senior Season going 11-4 and striking out 140 batters on the season while managing a 2.51 Earned Run Average. Peterson’s deal is the highest by a former Oregon player, outpacing the contract signed by Tyler Anderson a few years ago.
New York has been busy signing all of their Top Ten picks over the last few weeks. Peterson signed for just under $3 Million according to MLB.com.
While the Mets are looking for help in the pitching rotation, one thought was that Peterson may be making an early appearance in the Majors, but he will be in one borough away starting his career for the Brooklyn Cyclones. New York is still looking at options before the trade deadline and Bartolo Colon, recently demoted by Atlanta could be an option.
